Description:
Step up your metalsmithing game with this fun project embellished with water castings! You’ll use a freeform stone as the centerpiece of a pendant surrounded by organic sterling components that resemble small woodland lichens. We’ll use a simple, low tech way to get castings without a crucible, and you’ll learn two different bail options to choose from to make your finished piece your own. Along the way, you’ll add useful techniques to your metalsmithing toolbox.
Students will Learn:
Students will make and size a custom bezel; stick solder; learn to make and use water cast embellishments; create a custom bail; and set a cabochon.
Prerequisites:
This is an intermediate project; students must be able to successfully solder unattended and be proficient in the use of a jeweler’s saw.
Project completion:
Project will be completed in class
Minimum Age Requirement:
At least 16 years old.
Supplies to Bring:
Task light (preferably battery powered) and eye magnification. All tools, materials, and equipment necessary to complete the project is provided by the instructor.
Materials in Kit:
Sterling silver sheet, sterling silver wire,a selection of cabochons, all tools, materials, and equipment necessary to complete the project.
Limit:
One seat per person per class.
