Description:
The beginner student who has never made a glass bead will learn how to make a bead using a propane/oxygen torch. There will be safety instructions on how to safely make glass beads, including instruction on the torch, use of lampworking tools, and proper ventilation. Students will make glass beads! Class involves the use of a torch with open flame and gases. Wear safety (didymium) glasses, cotton clothing, and closed-toe shoes. Tie long hair back.
Students will Learn:
Students will become familiar with safety issues, learn the various tools and what they do; learn how to pull stringers to make dots, lines, and squiggles on a round bead; make twisties to add to their beads and learn how to keep some of the design raised; explore other shapes like barrels, drops, and squares; how to manipulate the glass with the tools.
Prerequisites:
Able to work in a torch.
Project completion:
Project will be completed in class
Minimum Age Requirement:
At least 18 years old.
Supplies to Bring:
Didymium glasses, metal soup can.
Materials in Kit:
Glass, mandrels, bead release, frit.
Limit:
One seat per person per class.
