Additional Information
Description:
Sometimes a cabochon needs a little lift! This technique turns thin cabs (or any stone) into stunning statements that rise above the rest. You’ll learn how to make a raised (also known as step bezel) using strips of thick sterling silver sheet and rectangular wire. You may never go back to using lightweight fine-silver bezel wire again! Add a big, bold shank to the raised bezel using heavy-gauge low-dome sterling silver wire.
Students will Learn:
Learn how to make thick bezels by working with heavy-gauge sterling silver in place of the typical fine-silver bezel wire. Learn fitting skills for shaping an inner bezel out of a narrower strip to create a seat for the cabochon that will raise the stone. Learn tips for gauging the depth of the seat and the outer bezel and a final tip for raising the dramatic bezel even higher.
