Description:
Learn a technique for forming multiple rings quickly and easily. You’ll love using our secret weapon, a ring-forming tool (although you can also use a mandrel for this method at home). Sizing is tricky for this design -- the handout will give you all the details. You’ll form and solder three rings, open two to intertwine them, and solder again to make an elegant, comfortable, and classic ring.
Students will Learn:
You’ll work using what we call the ‘bypass’ method of forming multiple rings -- it is rarely taught but very handy when you need to work efficiently. Learn the technique and how to apply it in your own work.
Prerequisites:
Basic fabrication and soldering experience.
Project completion:
Project will be completed in class
Minimum Age Requirement:
At least 16 years old.
Supplies to Bring:
Bench block; bench pin; jeweler's saw; metal ruler; pointed permanent marker; 2/0 saw blades; flat jewelry files (Swiss 3 and 5 cut); 320 and 400 grit sandpaper or sanding sticks; jeweler’s loupe; task light; Optivisors or other magnification, if needed. Optional: Steel ring mandrel, nylon mallet, flat/half-round pliers. Instructors will have extras of all required tools to share, if needed.
Materials in Kit:
8-gauge sterling silver half-round wire.
