Description:
Take a piece of cholla cactus skeleton and whittle it down to the piece you want. Make a two piece mold so you can create both the front and back of your piece. Use PMC and your mold to create the piece as you see it. You will create the self-contained bail within the piece, then fire, patina, and polish. You will have a little portion of the desert southwest to wear close to your heart.
Students will Learn:
Learn how to cut down and form from natural elements; how to build a two-part mold for a three-dimensional impression; the best way to prepare your piece for the self-contained bail; patina and polishing techniques; the trick to insert chain permanently into your work.
Project completion:
Project will be completed in class
Minimum Age Requirement:
At least 18 years old.
Supplies to Bring:
Craft knife, metal files, needle tool, paintbrush (fine), paper. emery board. Optional: If you have cactus skeleton or bark you like you can bring it. Instructor will have pieces to choose from as well.
Pliers:
Chainnose without grooves, long needlenose.
Materials in Kit:
PMC, mold making material, choice of 18 or 20 in. silver chain, stainless bowl, Lil Bella humidifier, work surface, firing services, patina materials, consumables, items for class enhancement, drill bit.
Limit:
One seat per person per class.
