Additional Information
This stunning and complex looking collar is actually straightforward to make and extremely versatile. You don’t need to buy a kit, which means you can tailor the colors according to your taste. The two tiers are made separately, then stitched together, but each tier can be used singly as a necklace. Either tier, or the combination, can support your own focal, whether that be a lampworked bead, a magnificent cabochon, or a beadwoven creation.
Students will Learn:
Double needle right-angle weave, how to begin herringbone from the right-angle weave, how to continue with square stitch from herringbone stitch, and how to modify the appearance of the right-angle weave with additional beads. Students will also learn a new fringe technique.
Students should be intermediate level beaders, that is, be comfortable working with 15/0 seed beads, familiar with several weaving methods, and have basic good beading practices.
Project completion:
Project will not be completed in class
Minimum Age Requirement:
At least 18 years old.
Supplies to Bring:
#11 beading needles, #12-13 beading needles, awl, beading mat, beading thread, head pins, reading glasses, scissors, sticky notes, task lamp. Two sets of 8/0, 11/0, 15/0 beads: One set for the right-angle weave, and herringbone and square stitch bases; the other set is for the fringes. Instructor used a single color for the RAW, herringbone and square stitch. Instructor used 4 colors, one in each of 8/0 and 11/0; and two in 15/0 for the fringes. The accent beads on the lower tier include 6/0 beads in one color; 3 x 5 mm teardrops on the lower tier, but you could also use similarly sized Japanese drops (magatamas).
