Additional Information
The instructor has never been a big fan of other methods of etching due to their toxic nature. Using this saltwater etching technique, take your work to the next level without the hazards of the other etching methods. Explore a number of different techniques to apply patterns to the metals that will make each piece completely unique. After etching your metal you can create a pendant or pair of earring of your own design using metalwork and riveting techniques.
Students will Learn:
Learn how to apply patterns to the metal and then etch your pieces; how to design and create your own pendant or earrings using metalworking techniques that include riveting.
Project completion:
Project will be completed in class
Minimum Age Requirement:
At least 16 years old.
Supplies to Bring:
Bench block and pad, wide-mouth Mason jar (quart size), flush wire cutters, 2 or more C-size batteries. Optional: Instructor will bring a limited number of the following tools for the class to share: riveting hammer, chasing hammer, 1.60 mm hole punch (twist down type), emery board file, metal shears, household hammer, disk cutter, dapping block and punches.
Chainnose, flatnose.
Materials in Kit:
Brass, copper metal, jump rings, rivets, copper wire, battery unit for etching.
One seat per person per class.
