Let’s have fun exploring and learning the basics of carving baked polymer sheets with v-shaped gouges in order to create texture plates on which to roll clay of any kind -- ceramic, metal clay, or polymer. This technique of creating your own original textures (which can also apply to carving the dry materials directly) individualizes and elevates the student’s finished work.
Students will Learn:
How to make and bake the polymer sheet; how to choose the carving tool and maintain it’s edge; how to hold the tool and make different strokes with the tool; suggestions on design possibilities.
Project completion:
Project will be completed in class
Minimum Age Requirement:
At least 18 years old.
Supplies to Bring:
Fine-tip marker, reading glasses, Scotch tape, tracing paper, writing materials.
Materials in Kit:
Dockyard carving tool (75 degree, V-shape), two baked polymer clay carving blanks.
One seat per person per class.
