Kathy King grew up on Long Island, New York, received an engineering degree from Lehigh University in 1991, served a few years in the USAF in VA, and finally settled in North Carolina in 1996, where she lives with her husband and two children.
Kathy always loved making things with clay and paper as a child. She was introduced to bead weaving in 1999, taking a class from Carol Wilcox Wells, and becoming completely addicted. Bead quilling is the technique Kathy developed, writing the book, “Bead Quilled Jewelry”, in 2009, and is what she uses to create the majority of her pieces. She also loves beaded beads, using the tiny size 15/0s to create lots of fun texture on the beaded beads' surfaces.
Kathy’s work has appeared in Bead&Button
magazines. She has been a finalist in Bead&Button’s BeadDreams competition four times, winning second place in 2009 in the Seed Bead Jewelry Category.
Kathy teaches classes at local bead stores and nationally, also selling her work in art shows up and down the east coast. You can see more of her work at www.kathykingjewelry.com.
