Mastering Metals - Advanced Lapidary Techniques for Jewelers
Take a lapidary journey with metalsmith, Michael Boyd, as he guides you through working with gemstones of all shapes and sizes to really enhance and stretch your jewelry designs. This Master's Class will help you go beyond the standard oval cabochons and round brilliants. With Michael's hands-on approach and technical expertise, you will be able to finally take control of your own unique designs. In this workshop, you will be inspired to learn how to really design using stones as a medium - not just an accessory. Throughout the three days, Michael will give you step-by-step instruction on how to properly cut and polish basic forms and shapes (other than ovals) in stone, as well as how to pierce, drill, and rivet stones with metal. Students will learn and experiment on how to carve grooves, laminate stones, layer stone and metal, and so much more. Michael will also spend class time discussing how to use color in your work to develop a design and apply color theory to enhance your jewelry pieces.

E-mail Michael to ask additional questions about this unique lapidary Master's course.
Meet Michael Boyd
Michael Boyd is a metal and stone artist who has mastered both media and brought them together in new ways. His work is highly respected and has been shown at top galleries and exhibitions including SOFA and the Museum of Art and Design (formerly the American Craft Museum). Michael teaches internationally and is sought after by many advanced level jewelry schools. His jewelry is a compilation of standard materials and processes aimed at a progressive and innovative use of unusual, rare, and traditional materials. In the collecting and choosing of stones, Michael is a colorist, and while cutting the stones, he defines the form and structure. Using stone as a medium is his goal as well as to blend and integrate these materials with the metal.

We need to know when you ship and the number of boxes. Due to the volume of packages we handle, your tools must be received no later than May 20, 2011. Please do not ship to us directly from a retailer or manufacturer which makes tracking difficult for us.
