Following A Creative Thread
Join Carol Wilcox Wells on a journey of the creative process ...the threads that lead from one piece to the next. This Master's Class should be called "an experience of sharing the Carol Wilcox Wells creative process." The three day class will stretch your artistic processes for Carol's creative thread which she is calling Cone Flowers and Pearls. The first project will involve an open bezel, a box chain, and how to incorporate an odd shaped (stick) pearl. As the class continues into day two, Carol will review why and how the second project works with the first, how they differ, and why they are strong enough to be worn alone or together. The second project will involve a triangular embellished chain, an embellished pearl, a component that incorporates a metal bezel, a CZ, and Ndebele herringbone. The closure is in the front and is integral to the design. On day three, the third necklace pulls from the other two, but is best worn alone - seemingly simple, yet complex. A discussion of the types of closures and why the one Carol selected works best. Why something simple is sometimes best - limiting the number of colors used, the number of stitches, etc. Students will then begin the third project which involves captured pearls, tubular right-angle weave with an innovative clasp. Through the process of making these pieces and listening to their birth stories, Carol is hoping that your creative door will open a bit wider as she shares herself with you, and you'll be able to apply and carry these techniques to your own beadwork at home or in the studio.
Who should take this class?
This class is for true intermediate to advanced bead jewelry designers, artists, and students who have good foundation knowledge of peyote and Ndebele herringbone stitches. Students must be proficient in right-angle weave.
